CANAL IRREAL - SOMEONE ELSE'S DANCE
What you hold in
your hands is not exactly for you. It is not a delight for your senses,
nor sonic inspiration for transgressing your restraints. It is not your
empowerment tool. It is manifestly theirs - a portal to their arena of
power, powerlessness, joy, hate, anger, fear, and failure. None of it
is yours. Still, can you plug in, tune in, lock in to their dial? Are
you capable of not giving in to escape and instead absorbing it? Are
you capable of asking for more? You want the channel? Here it goes: the
channel is walk into the dark and dance. Bop and beg. Lean and laugh.
Stare and stomp. Afterwards, go ahead and yell 'I failed!' Ride along
to the signal-notes that ring like sirens across the city warning you
that an odorless noxious gas has just been released into the air. But
don't run. Instead, lean into the pulse. The channel is bop your head,
bounce your ass, sing, wade, stomp, and scream. Canal Irreal has
rescinded and revoked your access to the splendid metropolis. The
channel is fuck you. The channel is dont ask them about Chicago, you
dont know it. The channel is dont ask them about the fish; the Lake has
consumed them all. Walk toward the darkness. Listen to the whispers and
less to the wind. Lift your arms up to the melodic swings. Bounce your
feet to the snap of the snare and flow of the bass. But don't lose
yourself - lock in. Are you capable of asking for more? Find the canal,
or be clicked out by the clicker. Hold on to the wavelength or go back
to normie-land. Canal Irreal is not hard or dark, its a portal to the
personal, to desperation and exasperation. Go ahead and scream: 'Doy
todo y mucho mas.' This channel is not for your liberation. But do
please tune in. What channel are you on now? Canal de mierda. Canal de
chingado. Canal de sobrevivir. Canal Irreal. Bienvenidos."-Mike Amezcua

DISARM - EXISTENCE DEMO 1985
Continuing in their
campaign to unveil the hidden history of the 1980s Virginian hardcore
punk scene, Beach Impediment unearths the "Existence Demo 1985" by
Virginia Beach skate thrashers DISARM. Taking inspiration from New
Yorks AGNOSTIC FRONT, Boston's SS DECONTROL, Sweden's ANTI-CIMEX as
well as the burgeoning thrash metal from Californias SLAYER and
POSSESSED, DISARM were truly a product of their time and in their brief
two-year lifespan, the teenaged quartet bombed up and down the east
coast sharing stages with CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, YOUTH OF TODAY and
GANG GREEN among others. Recorded in a suburban garage studio during a
sweltering summer, "Existence Demo 1985" combines the brute sonic force
of hardcore with a blinding thrash delivery to create one of the most
unheralded demo tapes of the era. Remastered from the original reels by
CHRIS CORRY and released in conjunction with NO IDOLS, the "Existence
Demo 1985" gets its well-deserved vinyl debut, almost 40 years after
its recording.
Each record features a layout adorned with imagery from the band's
brief existence along with liner notes derived from an interview
conducted by Tony Rettman with guitarist Raymond Epstein and vocalist
Bryan Zentz. Limited to a one time pressing of 500 copies.

GENTLEMAN JESSE - LOSE EVERYTHING
After ten long years
away from the studio, Gentleman Jesse returns to us bearing a new
ten-track album that benefits greatly from the wisdom and heartbreak
that a decade of life on this planet affords. An album titled "Lose
Everything" is bound to have its dark side, and behind the powerful
melodies and jangly guitars a hint of sadness hangs in the air. But
Jesse makes a bad time a good listen-after all, he's responsible for
tunes like Carbonas' "Phone Booth" and his debut single "I Don't Wanna
Know." While age tends to water down the output of older musicians,
it's had the opposite effect on Jesse. Gone is any semblance of kitsch
or power-pop convention. Also gone are his band - he's flying solo this
time. What remains is a dazzling, mature earworm of a guitar-pop album.
Each record comes in a matte jacket adorned with the photography of
Riley McBride and also includes a lovingly assembled booklet featuring
lyrics and original woodcut prints made by the Gentleman himself.

GRAVEN IMAGE - STUDIO SESSIONS: '82-'83
In the summer of
1982, an already burgeoning scene in Richmond, VA saw the arrival of
some new blood in the form of GRAVEN IMAGE. Taking both inspiration and
influence from the hardcore punk explosion that was well underway all
over the world, these youngsters who met at a local skate ramp
channeled their aggression through the no bullshit hardcore punk that
they churned out in their few years of existence. Having shared the
stage with a veritable who's who of punk at the time (BAD BRAINS, MINOR
THREAT, NECROS, C.O.C., VOID, THE FU's, etc) throughout the
Mid-Atlantic, the band's explosive live performance fronted by the
powerful and charismatic Dwayne Curd was evidence that they could hold
their own when billed with the aforementioned titans of the genre. "THE
STUDIO SESSIONS: '82-'83" features the entirety of GI's recorded studio
output - first from the "YOUR SKULL IS MY BOWL" session circa fall of
1982 that became the extremely rare and sought after split tape with
fellow local juvenile upstarts HONOR ROLE, and lastly from the "KICKED
OUT OF THE SCENE" EP session that was recorded in 1983 and released the
following year, plus some previously unreleased tracks from each of the
studio outings that yielded these 22 tracks of USHC fury! Carefully
transferred and restored from the original reels, each record comes
with a 12 page booklet chock full of photos, flyers and even some liner
notes from guitarist Nick Smilek and drummer Joey Boisineau. For
admirers of early American Hardcore and not much else.

INVERTEBRATES - SICK TO SURVIVE
A couple years back
here in Richmond, VA, a group known as INVERTEBRATES emerged from the
river sludge, dropping an absolutely scorching demo AND promo tape in
conjunction with the pulverizing of many a gig audience fortunate
enough to witness them. While the Inverts have stayed the course on the
latter, continuing to belt out the hits in the live setting the
hardcore punk faithful have been hungry for more, and folks, am I
excited to let ya know the wait is over! Featuring a handful of tunes
from those aforementioned tapes that many have surely worn out by now,
Sick To Survive is ten tracks of perfectly executed "45 RPM on a 12"
style hardcore punk"-meaning that while it doesn't overstay it's
welcome you will be left with a few sonic rage induced lumps as a
reminder of the time spent together. Truly a slab for those who love
the genre yet refuse to allot time for any of the extra bullshit that
comes in tow with it at this particular point of the dystopian
nightmare we find ourselves in. Each record comes in a jacket with a

LONG KNIFE - CURB STOMP EARTH
The third chapter in
the decade long existence of one of the most depraved Portland hardcore
bands ever. If you know, you know, as LONG KNIFE has channeled and
perfected the POISON IDEA sound, though if you pay attention to their
catalog, you can see how they have evolved into their own beast over
the years, making the PI comparisons trite. Every song on this record
offers something different, whether its keyboards, horns (yep), what
sounds to be operatic gang vocals, or just straight up hardcore
bangers. This LP still maintains the intensity, insanity, and
aggression these maniacs are known for, though there seems to be a bit
more melody thrown in under the chaos this time. The riffs, solos, bass
licks and Colin's vocals/lyrics are just as awesome as ever. And of
course, the lyrics are just as cynical, disturbing, and well written as
weve come to expect. There is no slowing down for these guys and the
Earth is ready to be curb stomped again and again with LONG KNIFE's
fucked up pummelling songs for these fucked up times. Each record comes
in a deluxe package - thick jacket and a huge poster plus stunning
cover art by Alina Radetsky.

MNP - MINDECSION
By now, it's not
surprising that the dissemination of the hardcore punk movement in it's
infancy seeped into the pores of nearly the entire planet. Of course,
all the major cities worldwide developed burgeoning hardcore scenes
that yielded the classics we know and love but there's something to be
said about the less known spots on the map and their select inhabitants
that were swept up in the fervor of it all, like some of those in the
sleepy valley town of Roanoke tucked away in the tranquil Blue Ridge
mountain region of Southwest Virginia. It was in that city, circa 1984,
that four teenagers came together to form MNP or, for the
non-Cyrillicly inclined, simply MNP. The band name, pronounced "Mihr"
and which translates to peace, was also the group's mission statement
and driving force in their brief existence. Having played a slew of
gigs locally and elsewhere alongside contemporaries like Corrosion Of
Conformity, Scream, Battalion Of Saints and Death Piggy among others,
they left as quickly as they came, disbanding in the summer of 1985
before most of the members left for college. Thankfully, the band
entered the studio earlier that year before calling it a day. The
tracks that made up the criminally underrated and sparsely circulated
MINDECISION cassette are a crucial entry into the annals of early
Virginia hardcore punk history, featuring twelve cuts of scorching USHC
executed by small town high school kids. Remastered from the original
reels by Chris Corry, each record comes in a jacket adorned with the

more recent member Christoffer on bass) clearly remain dedicated to the
discipline of creating and executing top notch hardcore punk. And it's
worth noting this isn't something reserved solely for the studio seeing
that the band is still performing all over the world as well with
recent dates in the USA and Colombia. Mob 47 is the epitome of a lifer
band. Released earlier this year in Europe by the long running and high

MONEY - MONEY
MONEY? MONEY. MONEY
are the Texas blackened metal punks who dropped that Final Bag demo and
3 A.M. Eternal EP on us in recent years. It can be hard to keep up with
the deluge of mostly bullshit that comes up on a daily basis but Money
stands alone. Their "members of" list is impressive but its unnecessary
in light of the blistering 1-2 of licks and rapid fire drums. And while
the aforementioned releases came into being via cassettes on the great
Roach Leg Records and from the band themselves respectively, B.I.R. is
proud to have these 7 corrosive tracks on vinyl for the first time.
Amphetamine fueled riffs for moral decline. Money. Remastered by Arthur

PHANTASIA - GHOST STORIES
Regular edition of
the PHANTASIA - GHOST STORIES 12" on black vinyl, limited to 600
copies. Pastels by candlelight, a spilled bottle, cigarettes burnt to
the filter, the outline of a face being tanned by a flickering neon
light, the vinyl debut from NYC's Phantasia is hard to get out of your
head. A polytropos of black lace tinged beachfront kitsch melted
together with the clever gloom of prime-era American indie, all topped
by the wavering and haunting vocals of what could be likened to a
baritone Siouxie Sioux. Elements of death rock, pure pop, punk, and
rock and roll are all here fighting for space amongst lilting synths,
reverb-soaked guitars, and muscular drumming. Recorded and mixed by
Sasha Stroud, this captures both the spirit of their influences - the
Feelies, Alaska y Dinarama, Bruce Springsteen, and Pylon - but holds
nothing back in terms of what these songs are capable of sounding like

PUBLIC ACID - DEADLY STRUGGLE
Amidst a seemingly
endless onslaught of bands, labels, and other opportunistic clowns
vying for commercial gain via subcultural cannibalism, it can be easy
to lose sight of what drew us to punk in the first place. But despite
the deluge of bullshit, we know that occasional nuggets of ugly and raw
authenticity will claw their way to the surface for the hardcore punk
faithful. And folks, we have just such a nugget in Deadly Struggle: 8
tracks of pummeling aural turbulence on a 12" slab for those who desire
reality over cosplay. Building off the shockwaves of 2020's
Condemnation, Public Acid's sound - a skewed, arty amalgamation of
bludgeoning hardcore, frantic, riff-soaked d-beat, harsh noise, and
underground metal - has only grown more focused and furious. There's
the virtuosic rhythm section, possessing an inhuman combination of
lightness of touch and neanderthal power; the blinding,
riffs-inside-of-riffs guitar style; the density of sound, massively
heavy and pock-marked with kaleidoscopic fuzz; the maniacal vocals,
inventive in both their technique and their rhythmic cadences; and, of
course, the deadly mid-paced parts. Deadly Struggle reminds us that
while hardcore punk will never die, those who cheapen it absolutely
will. Recorded by Sasha Stroud at Artifact Audio in NYC and mastered by
Arthur Rizk for maximum impact, each record comes in a screen printed
jacket with cover art by Thomas Sara immersed in a hypnotic layout by

RED CROSS - 1981-1982: NO MESSAGE
Pre WHITE CROSS, not
the Cali band.
For starters, don't let the name fool you, this is Richmond, VA - not
L.A. Coinciding with the beginning of the 1980s, the spread of punk's
mutation into the harsher exertion known as hardcore punk began to
spill across the continental United States. The music was becoming
harder and faster, straying from the style and formula that some of the
younger participants were starting to grow bored of and Richmond was no
exception to this phenomena. Following the 1981 implosions of local
punk groups MOD SUBS (see Beach Impediment Records #6) and DISRUPTERS,
the illustrious Mike Rodriguez formed RED CROSS alongside friends Frank
Gresham, Scott Price and Alford Faulknier. Their mission: to create and
play hardcore punk adhering to the motto of "LOUD FAST RULES" and they
did just that! The next year or so saw the band leaving a trail of
broken glass and harshed mellows throughout the greater metropolitan
Richmond area, to put it lightly. In early 1982, the boys entered
Studio 2 at Union Theological Seminary under the cover of night to
record 12 tracks that were intended to be the band's debut 12". Alas,
as bands tend to do, they eventually broke up due to internal
conflicts, which led to the almost immediate formation of Richmond
legends WHITE CROSS; arguably the final form of Mikey Rod's drive to
create fast, hard and ugly music. The WHITE CROSS fellas would carry
the torch of Richmond Hardcore Punk all over this country for the next
few years - but that is another story for another time, bud! As you
might have guessed, the aforementioned break up left the aforementioned
recording in a limbo of sorts, seemingly doomed to never reach the ears
of the public.
Having a sense of pride for the hard work and creative process that led
to the recording session in question, vocalist Frank Gresham did not
want to have this session completely lost to the sands of time, leading
to the creation of somewhere between 50-100 cassette tapes featuring
the studio recording, a live reimagined rendition of a John Cale
classic and a radio advertisement that the band ran as promotion to
close it all out. With this last will and testament of early USHC in
the Richmond area being spread among a small number of friends and
fans, Franky left it at that, eventually moving on up to NYC. In the
decades that followed, local hardcore punk enthusiasts had heard tales
of this band and the elusive tape documenting their existence with
fewer having ever even seen one in the wild. At long last, after 40+
years in obscurity, Beach Impediment is proud to present this long-lost
posthumous release of sorts, remastered from the original reel and
accompanied by a 16 page booklet featuring extensive liner notes by
surviving members Frank Gresham and Scott Price along with archival
imagery related to the band and their brief but impactful existence in
a sleepy southern town.

VAASKA - TODOS CONTRA TODOS
Since the earliest
days of hardcore punk, the city of Austin, TX has been known for
producing some of the best in the genre. The notoriety of this
particular scene has grown exponentially over the past few years with a
deluge of stellar bands coming out and capturing the adoration of those
in search of "that good shit." Out of them all, VAASKA would have to be
the longest running and most abrasive of the bunch. After a five year
break from the format the boys have delivered yet another 12" platter
of the raging D-Beat that they initially made themselves known for and
have been perfecting over the years. And the aforementioned half a
decade break between the 12"s was in no way an indication of them
slowing down, seeing the release of a 7" on Germany's Heart First
Records and the recording of a session with their latest and greatest
lineup (featuring the addition of Chris Ulsh on the kit) that yielded a
split 7" with fellow ATX goons THE IMPALERS and another with Japan's
SKIZOPHRENIA on Beach Impediment and 540 / Todo Destruido respectively.
