Amongst the mid 90's grunge pop storm was a quiet band from Perth who
would help define a sub-genre - "slowcore". But while forming in 1991,
it took 4 years for BLUETILE LOUNGE debut record Lowercase (1995), then
follow up with Half Cut (1998). With just two albums and a compilation
appearance, then they were gone. To the many that found them after the
fact, Bluetile Lounge were a band with a cult following. Championed by
bands LOW and SONIC YOUTH during their active years, they were
amplified by passionate fans and online file sharing, long after their
records were out of print. These were deep-cuts from the obscure scene,
subverting many of the genre tropes. Exisiting during a time
pre-internet mass adoption. Exisiting in a place far away from
everything, Perth Western Australia.

AURAS by DEAFCULT, is a record about dreams; the ghosts of people,
places and situations past that haunt our nights sleep, or
lack-thereof. After quickly selling out of their demo LP (released by
Blackwire Records) and numerous runs of shows around the country
already, anticipation is high for their debut. It reflects on
romanticised memories as a disaffected teenager in the suburbs, tales
of love, drugs, death, and the overwhelming feeling of finding yourself
but still feeling completely lost. The 12 songs that make up Auras are
wrapped in noisey guitars, blunted drums, fuzzed-out synth and soaring
vocals. While on paper it might sound initially abrasive, there is an
overwhelming sense of gentleness to Deafcult's music that you find calm
in, even when they push past the boundaries of abstraction - even when
you find yourself deep in Auras most distorted moments.
