this one, so you can't call Greatest Hits: 1985 to 1993 -- which
represents Stephanie Mills' last run of hits MCA Records -- definitive.
Mills interprets Angela Winbush's songs as if they were sent to her
directly from God: "(Something in the Way) You Make Me Feel" and "I
Have Learned to Respect the Power of Love" -- originally by Alton
McClain & Destiny -- are thrilling examples. Ever romantic, Mills
remains the swept-away lover, as the exhilarating "(You're Puttin') a
Rush on Me" and "I Feel Good All Over" attest too. Her remake of Gladys
Knight & the Pips' "If I Was Your Woman" stirs the same can of
emotions as the original. "Home," a song with a heavy message, closes
her live shows: the uplifting ballad prompts encore after encore.

O.S.T. - ABOVE THE RIM
Above the Rim - The
Soundtrack is the official soundtrack to the 1994 film of the same
name. The soundtrack, released by Death Row and Interscope Records on
March 22, 1994, was executive produced by Suge Knight. Dr. Dre acted as
supervising producer on the project.
The album was able to garner critical praise and obtain commercial
success, a feat not easily accomplished for soundtracks in general, and
hip hop-based soundtracks in particular. The album shipped over two
million copies and won the Soundtrack of the Year award at the 1995
Source Awards. The cassette version of the soundtrack contained three
bonus tracks that could not fit on the CD due to time constraints:
"Pain" by 2Pac (with Stretch), "Mi Monie Rite!" by Lord G, and "Loyal
to the Game" by 2Pac, Treach from Naughty By Nature, and Riddler. The
bonus track, "Pain" by Tupac Shakur/2Pac (with Stretch) was initially
rejected for use in the film by Dr. Dre, however, at the request of
recording engineer, Norman Whitfield Jr., the track was recut and
remixed for the film by record producer, Isaias Gamboa. The song's
considerable thematic use throughout the soundtrack including the key
scene when "Birdie" played by Tupac Shakur [2Pac] is killed, has helped
transform the "Pain" remix into a hip-hop classic. Under Death Row,
Above the Rim soundtrack was the third album under the label to reach
number-one on the R&B Albums chart where it stayed for ten
nonconsecutive weeks (Heavy D & the Boyz' Nuttin' But Love
interrupted that streak for one week), while it went to second place on
the Billboard 200 chart. Track 13 is a sensual remake of Rev. Al
Green's classic "I'm Still In Love With You" by the American R&B
recording artist Al B. Sure!.

Rancid - the legendary Bay Area punk rockers are back with their 10th
studio album, Tomorrow Never Comes on Epitaph Records. Emerging from
the blue-collar swamps of Berkeley, California, Rancid has now been a
living, breathing punk rock band for over a quarter century.
Back in 1991, after the demise of their much beloved and still
influential first band, Operation Ivy, founding members Tim Armstrong
(vocals, guitar) and Matt Freeman (bass, vocals) decided to do the
impossible - start an even better band. Thus, Rancid. Signing with
Epitaph Records, the band released their first album, "Rancid," in
1993. Shortly thereafter, Lars Frederiksen (vocals, guitar) joined the
band and they went on to release incredible records from "Let's Go."
(1994) to their classic - platinum selling "... And Out Come The
Wolves." (1995). Drummer Branden Steineckert joined the band in 2003,
cementing the line-up that rocks out till this day. Seeing Rancid live
is a life changing experience and steady touring is in the plan for
2023, kicking off in Las Vegas at the legendary Punk Rock Bowling
Festival in late May - the band will hit Europe in June and the rest of
the world soon after. Through it all, Rancid has remained fiercely
independent, never losing their loyalty to community or each other.
Their music confronts political and social issues, while balancing
personal tales of love, loss, and heartbreak with attitude. Rancid
gives their listeners a community where everyone can belong. By
carrying on the traditions and spirit of the original punk rock bands
that came before, Rancid has become a legend and inspiration to punk
bands that have come after. They are the living embodiment of East Bay
punk. And if you don't know all this by now - you're not playing their
music loud enough!
