PRESTON, KEVIN - CAPRICE
Calling all old souls, wild childs & real gone gals, here comes the brand spankin' new solo debut from Kevin Preston (Prima Donna/Green Day, etc.)! It's a hot shot of new-old-stock rock n roll that rolls as much as it rocks; strolls as much as it struts; and shuffles as much as it stomps. Close My Eyes slow-burns like a long drag on a Lucky Strike. I Know Where I Stand channels the spirit of fellow Valley boy, the late Ritchie Valens. Caprice is a slapback-drenched rockabilly rave up that sounds like a rumble between the ghosts of Alan Vega, Vince Taylor & Gene Vincent. Kevin cut his teeth in the early 2000's as a teenager playing guitar in a revamped lineup of original 70's-era Los Angeles punks The Skulls. Then he started up the rock group Prima Donna, moving to center stage as lead singer. Prima Donna toured relentlessly, slowing down only to knock out a few records along the way & strike up a band-romance with Green Day who took them on tour a few times. That connection led to Kevin joining forces on guitar with Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong on two side-hustle bands over the years; Foxboro Hot Tubs (in 2008) and The Longshot (in 2018). In 2019, Kevin joined the Green Day band as touring guitarist/backing vocalist. I was at Dodger Stadium the last time I saw Kevin Preston. There he was, that sweet kid from the Valley who I met at the turn of the century when we were on the Warped Tour together, now plying the boards at Chavez Ravine with Green Day. Man, the f***in' Beatles played their 2nd to last show ever there back in 1966! But along with all that stadium rock, our boy is now moonlighting as a solo artist & going back to the basics... So, dig these new numbers & enjoy the ride, baby! |

KEITH, JOHN PAUL - A WORLD LIKE THAT: LIVE AT B-SIDE
A World Like That - Live at B-Side captures a unique moment in time, recorded in the summer of 2021, just as live music was returning to Memphis. We were celebrating the release of my fifth studio album, The Rhythm of the City, six months after its actual release. The album features my extended, 7-piece, all-star Memphis band and horn section, performing for the first time under the new name we gave ourselves: John Paul Keith and The Rhythm of the City. We didn't really set out to make a live record, but once we heard the tracks, we decided to share it with the world.We named the album after my song "A World Like That", which I had written years earlier but never recorded. I included the song after the legendary Memphis soul great Don Bryant released his version as a single in February 2021. World events have only seemed to make the lyrics more relevant to me, and so we decided to feature it on this live album. |

KEITH, JOHN PAUL - THE RHYTHM OF THE CITY
Keith's fifth solo album - and his first self-produced effort - 'The Rhythm of the City' finds him expanding his approach on a horn-heavy 10-song collection that's in thrall to the classic sounds of Bluff City soul and rock and roll. "I was at my home in Memphis one evening and heard a car pass by blasting Al Green's 'Love and Happiness,' which was recorded just a couple miles away," says singer-songwriter John Paul Keith. "I was struck by how Howard Grimes' drumming just seems to embody something about the feel and the pace of life for me here. I thought to myself, 'Howard Grimes is the rhythm of the city.' My next thought was, 'That sounds like a title track.'" Conjuring up his own unique musical mélange -a sweet spot where the sound of Sun blues, Stax soul, and Hi R&B all meet - it's a record steeped in the geography and culture of Memphis, which Keith has called home for the last 15 years. "The vibe came about organically from playing Beale Street and Graceland and working with horn sections more frequently the last few years," says Keith. The Rhythm of the City was recorded to tape at Electraphonic Studios, and engineered by Keith's frequent collaborator, Scott Bomar (bandleader of the Bo-Keys, Don Bryant producer, and film composer for Dolemite Is My Name). |

MENAGRAMO - MENAGRAMO
You can say anything about Menagramo, but not that they're lazy. Since 2016 they've put out a full length, seven different DIY EP's, a tape. A number of differently designed shirts that it's pretty hard to make sense of. Something like 150 shows: they played on a moving bus, standing on a table in a bike shop, in living rooms, in backyards, at a bonfire party. They practiced twelve times in these last six years. You can say that Menagramo are lazy, but not that they're incoherent. Since when they started, the deal was clear: never hit a studio, never release anything physical, never have any contact with record labels, put all music out for free. It haven't always gone that way. But still they're the kind of band which plays a big show with an expensive ticket and feel the need to play another show in the same city one week after with a 9 times cheaper ticket. You can say that Menagramo are incoherent, but not that they don't care. When "RIBCAGE" came out, five days before lockdown, Menagramo had a big tour planned and lots of expectations. Everything, justlike the work of any other band, went down the toilet so bad. They decided to move one and write a new EP. You can say Menagramo don't care, but not that they give up. So when Wild Honey Records showed up, interested in this new EP, they also came up with another idea: what if we repress "Ribcage" and add these new four tracks on the top? Wild Honey Records is proud to announce the reissue, for the first time in vinyl, Radio Birdman founder Deniz Tek's groundbreaking LP "Take It To The Vertical". "Take It To The Vertical", originally released by Redeye/Polydor Records Australia in 1992, was Deniz Tek's first solo album. Recorded at historic SugarHill Studios in Houston, Texas, the album features Radio Birdman's Chris Masuak on guitar and keyboards; and The Stooges' Scott Asheton on drums. There are extensive liner notes, never before seen photos, and a bonus track that was not on the original release. This amazing album has been long out of print, rare, and nearly impossible to find. TUTTLE, DOUG - PINECONE
Throughout the harrowed edges of the 2020 pandemic, Doug Tuttle's Pinecone EP was born from hours spent whiling away the time in an ever-increasing apprehension. As the uncertain landscape outside frayed and unraveled, Tuttle turned his task towards songwriting constructed around stripped-down melodies and simple, self-soothing repetition. Like a half-recalled tune that sticks in your head or a mantra meant to focus the mind, each of these five songs is steeped in the nostalgic remembrance of better times set against a wobbling, unreliable reality. At times adrift in cyclical jangly pop as on "Lead Mask," shimmering, affected piano and sun-blistered guitar as on the hook-y "Weak Ends," or thoroughly steeped in wavering, grief-laden guitar slide as on "Darkness Under Blight," Pinecone EP feels comfortably well-worn from back and forth pacing, or rubbed smooth like a worry-stone carried in the pocket. Guitarist, vocalist, producer, and songwriter Doug Tuttle's first band, Mmoss, was a deeply psychedelic project and when it split, Tuttle shifted musical gears. Recording in a home studio, Tuttle made records using various folk/rock, psych, and classic rock elements; his first two were lo-fi takes on melancholy psych pop that featured his buzzing guitar and mournful vocals. By the time of 2017's Peace Potato though, he'd switched gears and began crafting mid-fi versions of mainstream '70s rock that wouldn't sound out of place next to Tom Petty on a playlist. |
