HIGHLIGHTS 'Grandes Cumbias', a superb selection of traditional cumbias, vallenatos, porros and gaitas from the legendary Ondina label in Medellín, Colombia. First vinyl reissue in many years... essential! 14 Classic gems, remastered and restored from original vinyl records, are being released on vinyl after many years, in an edition aimed at collectors and the general public. DESCRIPTION Fishermen, water-carriers, coconut, cotton and banana- growers, this is the indigenous wealth of the Atlantic coast. Together, they form a group completely unique within Colombia, defined by their own distinct music, dialect, and customs. Their people are remarkably cheerful; their women are charming, generous, and attractive; their villages are deeply welcoming, and their beaches are warm. It is a striking combination that has long made this vibrant region the ultimate paradise for travelers, and even more enchanting for the foreign visitor. The 14 musical tracks compiled on this full-length album are drawn directly from that rich wellspring of musical folklore. Sourced from sun-drenched beaches and winding country lanes, there is a delightful flavor of palm trees, sea salt, and coastal life woven throughout. These textures are beautifully elevated by the orchestra's colorful and elegant arrangements, brought to life under the guidance of conductors and arrangers who ventured into the most remote corners of the coast. Their mission: to study and preserve the authentic songs, rhythms, and drumbeats that have earned passionate admiration across the globe. This album stands as a true 'cumbiamba' a musical celebration where you can appreciate the rolling cadences of the Cumbia and the Vallenato, the infectious joy of the Gaita, and the playful mischief of the Porro. It captures, too, that timeless, wholesome desire of a man to see his beloved crowned with a rainbow, holding her as the fairest of them all_ Light the candle of the cumbiamba!
